The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of the most important trails in South America. Hiking the Inca trail is an unforgettable experience you definitely shouldn’t miss. The trail is within a protected wild natural ecosystem. It passes several archeological Incan sites and offers impressive views along the whole trail. The Incas used this trail as a pilgrimage to the sacred citadel of Machu Picchu.
1ST DAY: Cusco – Km 82(2,750mt – 9022ft) – Llulluchapampa (3,850 mt – 12,800 ft)
04:30 am.We will pick you up in your hotel, and transfer you on a private tourist bus to the trailhead at 82km.
06:30 am.Breakfast stop in Ollantaytambo.
08:00 am.Briefing at the trailhead (2,750 mt) after crossing the Urubamba River we will start to hike and visit a number of archeological sites of WILKARAKAY and Incan Ruins of Llactapata. Continue up the CUSICHAKA River Canyon with magnificent views of the Cordillera Oriental, particularly, VERONICA Mountain (5,850 mt).
13:00 pm. Lunch in Wayllabamba.
14:00 pm. We will continue along the trail and cross the Cusichaka river observing several Incan agricultural terraces and irrigation channels. Visit the picturesque village of Huayllabamba. From this point we will start the ascent along different levels, where we will appreciate different Eco-systems along the way passing through the cloud forest of Yuncachimpa and Corralpunku with an excellent view of the snow-capped peaks.
16:30 pm.In LLUCHAPAMPA we will set up our camp site (3,850 mt) this is the highest campsite and the temperature drops down to 7 or 8 degrees. From the sunrise to the sunset it is warm and it gets gradually colder as the sun comes down.
17:30 pm.Afternoon Tea and Dinner.

2ND DAY: Llulluchapampa (3,850mt – 12,800ft) – Chaquicocha (3,450 mt) (11,490 ft)
05:30 am. Wake up.
06:00 am. Breakfast.
07:00 am. Challenging day up the trail toward the first and highest pass WARMIWANUSCA (dead woman pass) (4,215 mt) (13,910 feet). From the pass we descend to Pacasmayo valley (3,300 mt) (10,826 feet).
12:00 am. Lunch in PACASMAYO.
13:30 pm. From Pacasmayo valley we go up to the Inca Ruins of RUNKURACAY, then continuing up we go over the second pass (3,960 mt) (12,949 feet) and follow the Royal Inca Highway down to the Inca Ruins of SAYACMARCA passing Lake YANACOCHA.
16:30 pm. Camp in CH’AQUICOCHA.
17:30 pm. Tea time and snacks.

Hiking time: 6-7 hours
Total distance: 12 km approx.
3RD DAY: Chaquicocha (3,450 mt – 11,380 ft) – Phuyupatamarca – Wiñaywana (2,650 mt – 8,700 ft)
06:00 am. Wake up.
06:30 am. Breakfast.
07:30 am. We start up the trail, and pass through beautiful sub- tropical vegetation en route to the archaeological site of PHUYUPATAMARCA.
9:30 pm. Visit the Inca ruins of PHUYUPATAMARCA (3,600 mt – 11,800 ft). Afterwards we start down a long steep stone stairway to our campsite at Wiñaywayna (2700mt) going through cloud forest vegetation with great opportunities to see beautiful orchids and birds.
13:00 pm. Lunch and campsite.
15:30 pm. Guided tour of Wiñaywayna archeological site.
16:00 pm. Back to the campsite (2,650 mt) (8,700 feet).
17:30 pm. Tea time and snacks.
19:00 pm. Dinner time

Hiking time: 4- 5 hours
Total distance: 9 km approx.
DAY 4: Wiñaywayna (2640 mt – 8,660 ft) – Machupicchu (2,400 mt – 7870 ft) – Cusco.
04:00 am. Wake up.
04:30 am. Breakfast.
05:00 am. We start out to Machupicchu overlooking the Urubamba River to the sun gate to see the sunrise at Machu Picchu. We enter the site early in the morning for the best photo opportunities and spend the rest of the morning visiting and exploring the Inca ruins.
12:30 pm. Meeting for those interested in visiting Machupicchu Town, having lunch or going to the hot springs.
16:22 pm. Return to Cusco by tourist train to Ollantaytambo, and change for a bus back to Cusco.

What do I need to bring?
A rucksack with your personal belongings for the whole period of the trek which is to be carried by you including sleeping bag and mattress, when you do not hire a personal porter
A big rucksack to be provided to a personal porter, and a small rucksack to be carried by you with the essentials for the day (this is when you hire a personal porter) Rain gear (annorax and rain trousers if available) and rain poncho (plastic ponchos can be purchased in Cusco)
- Strong and waterproof trekking boots recommended
- Sandals or flip-flops for a higher comfort while at camp
- Warm clothes (thermal clothing is also recommended, especially for sleeping)
- Sleeping bag (please inform our Reservations Department if you wish to book this extra service at the moment of your booking)
- Foamy mattress: will be provided by us but is to be carried by you
- Head torch and batteries
- Camera, batteries and memory card (batteries consume more quickly under cold conditions)
Wide brim hat or cap to protect you from the sun, rain and cold
- Sun block
- After-sun cream or hydrating cream for face and body
- Insect repellent – minimum recommended 80% DEET – no malaria risk has been reported
- Toilet paper
- Snacks: biscuits, energy bars, chocolate, raw fruits, muesli, etc. Please note that we do provide a daily morning snack and our meal service is very complete and well supplied. This recommendation applies for all clients being used to a specific snack, as it may happen that it is not included in our selection
- A canteen or camel back, plastic water bottles are no longer allowed into the Inca Trail.

INCA TRAIL REGULATIONS
An Inca Trail permit is required for this trip. There are a number of important regulations regarding the Inca Trail that we would like to make you aware of:
1. Spaces on the Inca Trail are on a first come, first served basis and we urge you to book as early as possible.
2. If you cancel your booking more than 8 weeks before departure and wish to transfer your deposit to another departure or another trip the transfer fee is $250 as we will lose the permit have purchased. This is an amendment to our Booking Conditions. No transfers are possible within 8 weeks of departure.
3. Bookings can only be made if we are supplied with your full name, passport details, date of birth and nationality, exactly as per the passport you will be using to travel to Peru (this information is used to purchase your Inca Trail permit). If your passport details do not match those on your permit you will be refused entry to the Inca Trail by the local authorities.
4. Should the passport used to purchase your permit be lost, stolen or expire before your Inca Trail start date, you must purchase a new passport and notify National Peru Travel immediately as we will need to apply to amend your Inca Trail permit. To do so, you must supply copies of both your old and new passports to National Peru Travel in advance of travel and pay an administration fee of $35. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you make a copy of your passport at the time of booking.
5. Please be aware that these regulations may change at any time, and National Peru Travel is not responsible for the decisions made by Peruvian authorities.
6. There is a possibility that the Peruvian authorities may increase the entrance fees to the Inca Trail, Machu Picchu and other major sights during 2016. If they do so, we will inform you of this increase and the extra amount will need to be paid locally in cash in Peru.
Please Note: Whilst your departure date may be ‘ Guaranteed’, your Inca Trail permit itself will initially be ‘ On Request’. Inca Trail permits are released in January of each year, for the whole of that year and we cannot reserve or pre‐purchase them. If travelling within the current year we will try to purchase your permit immediately upon receiving your booking. If travelling next year, we will apply for your permit next January as soon as they are released for sale. In either case, in the event that we are unable to get your permit we will contact you to discuss your options.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTES:
– We provide porters to carry all heavy gear, (for instance: Tents, food, etc.) and you carry all your personal staff plus the sleeping bag and roll matt.
-However, physical or disability problem that would not allow you to carry or walk properly, or you just simply do not want to carry anything of your belongings rather than a daypack with the day essentials, so you can enjoy more of your hike and not wasting time and energy on doing a big effort whilst hiking, you can hire an extra porter to carry 14 kilos of your belongings or you can share one with another person carrying 7 kilos of each.
– You must arrive in Cusco at least two days before your trek in order to get used to the altitude, and come to our office to make the final arrangements, pay the remaining balance of your trek, and get briefed on the Inca trail itinerary. – Type of service: Arrange very reasonable rates! Services guaranteed we believe in equal pay for equal work, our porters are not exploited! We work gently with the environment and conserve it.
– Winter season: June, July, the temperature drops to below freezing at night and very early in the morning (-2 or -6 Celsius).
– Mountain weather is unpredictable; please keep all your belongings in plastic bags.
-Tips for porters, cooks and guides are always welcome. The porters will also be happy for a small donation, for example: clothing or school items for their children.
Tourism can be a real help to local communities, providing income, positive cultural exchanges and a financial incentive to protect their natural environment. Ours is a ‘ total approach’ to responsible tourism, covering everything from the way we plan and operate our trips to the practices of National Peru Travel as a company. On this trip, we operate a zero‐impact policy on the Inca Trail, removing all waste from campsites and separating it so that it can easily be recycled or composted. Using a toilet tent at our lunch stops and in camp removes the need to dig holes at campsites, and alleviates the waste problems caused by the fixed toilet blocks. Our camp staff are paid a fair wage and receive all accommodation, transport and food during the trek. They are also trained and encouraged to put environmental protection practices into use in their own communities. The porters we work with are not directly employed by our local partner but we work with the same communities each year; we supply uniforms, walking shoes and provide safe transport and community support for them. Our trek manager is a leading figure and consultant for the Porters’ Federation, which campaigns for the fair treatment of porters in the region.
